Are you looking for the Best SEO for Small Business?
“As a small business, my best SEO tip, is not to go looking for tips.” – Quote SEO Nerd Paul 2017
So your starting your own business, and have figured out that you need to understand SEO and then Google will give you lots of new customers, and you can live happily ever after?
When you go looking, you are bombarded with information and promises and something just doesn’t feel right.
Am I getting warm?
The reason being, is that there are many long paths you can take in SEO that will lead you down some very technical and potentially damaging routes.
There are lots of snake oil salesmen out there in this industry, and it is very easy to get drawn to the light that is “Do XYZ tip and get your site on Page 1 for Google“.
Sounds familiar right?
There is so much of this out there, that it takes up more of the industry than genuine services do, and this was evident when Google began releasing algorithm updates, and we all saw the Blackhat and even Greyhat SEO’d sites fall through the floor. – The is not the Best SEO for Small Business.
Even if you do manage to find that one tip or trick that still works in today’s algorithm, who is to say that this tip or trick is not what Google are going to clamp down on next?
Get where I am going with this?
Well not to worry. SEO Nerd Paul is about to break down this whole SEO thing into nice bitesize bits that you can chew down easily and will help you take action in the right direction.
No Snake oil here. (In fact, the point of this article is to tell you, you don’t need an SEO service).
My best advice, is instead of looking for tips and tricks, is to focus on a set of solid processes, that aim to generate and distribute value adding content.
Yes this takes longer and isn’t as ‘awesome’, but here is the good news:
To do this, and do it right so it is sustainable and benefits the growth of a small or even medium sized company over the long run, takes very little technical understanding.
It comes down to these 4 Process categories:
Of course each of these sections can get more and more complicated the further you delve into each one, and especially if you are looking to rank in the top 50,000 websites in the world.
But for the majority of businesses, this is overkill.
You can be the number one in your industry, for your Geographic location using very simple processes withing the 4 categories.
Technical Foundations -Best SEO for Small Business
Instead building your own website, or even as a simpler alternative to the likes of WordPress, why not try an all encompassing solution like Wix? Is Wix as powerful? Of course not, but what it does do is, on the backend, it manages all the technical pitfalls you may run into if you are self-managing your own site.
Why does this matter?
If you don’t have to worry about all the potential technical pitfalls, or spend months learning how to write CSS to get that WordPress template just the way you want it, you can focus your time on adding value to your customers and generating the content that will really matter to your SEOrankings.
This is just a process. For your average company, it is as simple as getting Google Analytics, Getting Google Webmaster tools and using Google Adwords’ Keyword Planner.
From these three, FREE tools, you can gather all the information you need to plan your content.
Type your Keyword into Google search but do not hit enter.
When Google Auto-Prompts your keywords, it will give you a list of long tail keywords for you to target. (Others will be listed at the bottom of the search results page)
Once you have your list, go to the Keyword Planner.
Look for low competition keywords and begin targeting them with your content.
Monitor your progress with Analytics and Webmaster Tools.
Rinse and repeat.
Content Preparing – Best SEO for Small Business
This is just writing. There is no magical formula here. Yes, there are actually formulas when you want to generate the most perfect piece of content, but generally, if you use the guiding light of adding value, you will always win in the long run.
Makes sense if you think about it.
Longer content always ranks better. Aim for above 1,800 words per article. Use other forms of media throughout your content, video, images etc. Maintain good grammar and keep people engaged and informed and they will stay on your page longer, telling Google that your content is valuable.
Content Distribution – Best SEO for Small Business
This is just a process. Start here. Create a Facebook Page, and every time you write a new blog post, post it to your Facebook page. Then think about where else you might post it.
Do this again and again, until you have a long list of actions to complete every time you publish a blog post. And maintain the process, EVERY time.
Again, keep the value adding principal as your focus. Don’t spam, or be spammy, but distribute and inform. If someone comments, respond. You are dealing with people, and people value genuineness.
Do this for the majority of small businesses or Freelancers, and over time you will see steady growth and smiling faces.
Often times, the quick wins from Tips and Tricks are just that, and if you don’t build your SEO on a solid foundation, it is likely to not stay standing for very long.
